Project: Surgical Waiting Area  Brooklyn, NY

Owner:  Maimonides Medical Center

Architect: Lee Harris Pomeroy Architects

Engineer: Goldreich, Page & Thropp, NYC (Structural Eng.)

This building was designed with curved copper roofing and built on top of the existing roof above the occupied 5th floor and over the busy 10th Avenue roadway in Brooklyn.  Closing off 10th Avenue for this project was not an option.  Special safety barricades had to be designed and installed on 6th floor parapet to protect the public and construction workers during the construction.  The owner requested the full effect of the existing view of the Verrazano bridge.  Design consisted of entire glass  aluminum curtain wall facing the Bridge.  Because the floor below had to remain operational, this structure had to be suspended from above.  The structural material was incorporated  into the design of the interior.
